The Kerala Fisheries Department, in partnership with IIT Madras, has launched prototype hydrogen-powered fishing boats. These zero-emission vessels use fuel-cell propulsion and offer quieter operations with a range of 200 km per fill. The pilot has been deployed in Vizhinjam and Kasaragod. If successful, it will reduce diesel use, marine noise disturbance, and promote clean fishing technology. Fishermen are being trained to operate and maintain the boats.
